NordVPN is a Panama-based VPN service that is fully-featured and also very affordable. In terms of security and privacy, NordVPN has made huge strides over the past year. Surfshark is a newer VPN service with a lot to offer, at a very reasonable price. The Surfshark Mac OS VPN client did well in my tests. It is simple, user-friendly, and still offers lots of great features. You can select from the OpenVPN or IKEv2 VPN protocols in the settings. While it does not currently support the WireGuard VPN protocol, Surfshark plans to add this later in the year.

Surfshark is also one of the best VPNs for streaming. It consistently works with numerous Netflix libraries, BBC iPlayer, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and more. Surfshark offers apps for all types of streaming devices, including Smart TVs. They even have an app in the Amazon store if you want to use a VPN with Firestick. While Surfshark offers more than enough speed for HD streaming, it is not quite as fast as NordVPN, as we found in our tests for the Surfshark vs NordVPN comparison.

In terms of privacy and security features, Surfshark also has a lot to offer:

4. VPN.ac for Mac OS

VPN.ac is another great Mac VPN that performs well in all categories – from security to speed and reliability. VPN.ac is run by a small team of network security professionals (Netsec Interactive Solutions). I found the Mac OS client to perform well in testing for the VPN.ac review: no leaks, bugs, or problems to report. The network speeds and reliability were also good, although not nearly as fast as ExpressVPN or NordVPN.

VPN.ac is mainly a privacy and security-focused VPN service. They offer some interesting features such as double-hop VPN configurations, various VPN encryption protocols, and secure proxy browser extensions for Chrome, Firefox, and Opera.

While these unique privacy features are great for some users, VPN.ac is not the best option for streaming and they do not offer live chat support. The main drawback with VPN.ac is that they keep basic connection logs for security purposes, but these are erased daily and never include browsing/activity logs.

Perfect Privacy is a no-logs, Switzerland-based VPN provider. It offers a secure VPN service with advanced privacy features. These include:

• Multi-hop VPN: Route your VPN traffic across multiple servers at the same time (up to four servers).

Another option available on Mac OS (El Capitan and later) is the built-in IPSec/IKEv2 VPN settings. The IKEv2 protocol is considered secure, reliable, and less CPU-intensive than OpenVPN. It can also run natively on your Mac OS operating system (without any applications). Trim, share, and save

After you stop recording, a thumbnail of the video appears briefly in the lower-right corner of your screen.

• Take no action or swipe the thumbnail to the right and the recording is automatically saved.
• Click the thumbnail to open the recording. You can then click to trim the recording, or click to share it.
• Drag the thumbnail to move the recording to another location, such as to a document, an email, a Finder window, or the Trash.
• Control-click the thumbnail for more options. For example, you can change the save location, open the recording in an app, or delete the recording without saving it.

Change the settings

Click Options in the onscreen controls to change these settings:

• Save to: Choose where your recordings are automatically saved, such as Desktop, Documents, or Clipboard.
• Timer: Choose when to begin recording: immediately, 5 seconds, or 10 seconds after you click to record.
• Microphone: To record your voice or other audio along with your recording, choose a microphone.
• Show Floating Thumbnail: Choose whether to show the thumbnail.
• Remember Last Selection: Choose whether to default to the selections you made the last time you used this tool.
• Show Mouse Clicks: Choose whether to show a black circle around your pointer when you click in the recording.

Use QuickTime Player

1. Open QuickTime Player from your Applications folder, then choose File > New Screen Recording from the menu bar. You will then see either the onscreen controls described above or the Screen Recording window described below.
2. Before starting your recording, you can click the arrow next to to change the recording settings:
   
   • To record your voice or other audio with the screen recording, choose a microphone. To monitor that audio during recording, adjust the volume slider. If you get audio feedback, lower the volume or use headphones with a microphone.
     
   • To show a black circle around your pointer when you click, choose Show Mouse Clicks in Recording.
     
3. To start recording, click and then take one of these actions:
   • Click anywhere on the screen to begin recording the entire screen.
   • Or drag to select an area to record, then click Start Recording within that area.
4. To stop recording, click in the menu bar, or press Command-Control-Esc (Escape).
5. After you stop recording, QuickTime Player automatically opens the recording. You can now play, edit, or share the recording.
